fiano is a grape historically grown in campagna, which is a wine region near naples in italy. that part of italy is quite hot and fiano has a curious quirk in that it holds its acidity in a hot climate. not many grapes do and so fiano is ideally suited to hot wine regions like campagna and the hunter valley for this reason.
our 2021 pig latin fiano was grown at a vineyard in milbrodale which is a little town in the broke wine region. the wine is steely and has a savoury more than a fruity nose.
previous fianos that piggs peake has made has been of a different vineyard and drank more like verdelhos. this one is leaner and tighter.
